I have a similar reason. I just can’t stand the character design in this game. Don’t know why…
I also don’t like the graphics. They’re so much better in VIII and IX.

I didn’t know about the added effects with the Contain materia. I just got it for the humongo spells it afforded. Pretty cool!

Tetra elementals are good unless you want to sell them. They sell for only 1 gil, I think
