How to play Final Fantasy (and where to get it)

Vaan - Final Fantasy XII

Playing the “Final Fantasy” series would be playing any typical role-playing game. However, “Final Fantasy VIII,” “Final Fantasy X,” and “Final Fantasy XII” do somewhat play differently from the rest of the Final Fantasy Games. In order to play Final Fantasy, you need to learn the basics of its typical combat system.

Typically, you have your health points and your magic points. Your health points will be labeled as “HP” while your magic points will be labeled as “MP.”

Remember, to be able to play Final Fantasy you have to treat it like any other role-playing game. If you are familiar with the typical combat system in Final Fantasy, you should do fine. Most of the Final Fantasy games implement a combat system in which you and your party members have an action meter. Depending on your character’s speed, it may take some time for the meter to fill up.

Once that meter fills up, your character can do a certain action.

Your character can do a certain action such as: attack, magic, item, or special skill.

Characters will have certain attacks such as close range or long range fighting. Whenever your character gets hit, s/he will lose points and/or get hit with a status attack. You have to learn to use a combination of basic attacking, spells, items, and special skills.

Certain characters have magical skills that will cure your party members or hurt your opponents. Magical skills will sap your MP. The more powerful the spell you cast is, the more MP it will take. There is also a cap on your HP and your MP. But, the cap increases once your characters reach their next levels.

Also, their attributes increase by about one or two. There are also special items that your characters can equip that increases your attributes. Later on, you can sell those items and buy better items. But, there is the exception in “Final Fantasy VIII.”

There are items in which you can use to restore your MP. In towns, you can eat and sleep for a fee. Your HP and MP will be restored afterwards.

I did not get into Final Fantasy until “Final Fantasy VII” had come out. When playing, you have to think intelligently in battle. There are times where you cannot attack your enemy because you need to cure your party members of different status ailments.

You have a character that may have been knocked out in battle. You can get experience points and money by defeating enemies. The points are needed to level up. The money is needed to buy items.

Website reviews: Final Fantasy Union.com

As of 2009 there have been two films, over thirteen video games in the series, and really no end in sight. Currently it seems that Final Fantasy and its millions of fans of here to stay.

Fans of Final Fantasy, or at least the Internet savvy ones tend to create websites with detailed information on each of their favorite games, or all of the games from the Final Fantasy series. Final Fantasy Union is one of those websites, however there is some question to whether or not it can stand up against other Final Fantasy themed websites.

Design

At first glance the design and layout features of Final Fantasy Union aren’t bad at all, hence the website has a very professional feel to it. The website doesn’t really look like the typical fan created Final Fantasy website, which is a major plus. Overall of the layout and design are pretty impressive for this type of website.

Features

There are many features on Final Fantasy that will keep fans of the series jumping for joy. The first and foremost interesting feature of the website is obviously the websites character database, which has profiles for pretty much ever character from Final Fantasy games.

Interestingly enough the characters are split between categories such as Last Popular to keep things interesting. Another great aspect of this website is the news on the front page, which has the newest happenings from the Final Fantasy world and seems to be updated quite frequently.

In addition to that the website also has a glossary for those wanting to learn more about the Final Fantasy universe, farther adding to the mountains of information this website already has. If you’re going to check out this website, be sure to stop by the forums and join in on a discussion, as everyone is very friendly.

Improvements

There are a few ways that Final Fantasy Union could improve. First of all it would be nice to see some more features besides mountains of information on the games characters, events, or items. It would be wise to create reviews and previews for Final Fantasy games and their spin offs, and maybe even some downloads with the Final Fantasy theme.

Overall Final Fantasy Union gets a seven out of ten for being well above average. Of course the website isn’t perfect, but its probably the best place on the Internet to find Final Fantasy information.
